Jiya Jaanvi Prasad is making a significant impact at the Vodafone Fiji Coral Coast Carnival in Sigatoka, where she is one of seven contestants united in the fight against drug addiction. Sponsored by Rainbow Cool Tech, the 20-year-old is using her platform to raise awareness and promote compassion as means to combat this critical issue.

“This carnival serves as a powerful reminder that we can work together to tackle drug addiction,” Ms. Prasad stated. This participation marks her first foray into pageantry, a step she embraces fully as she seeks to advocate for hope, recovery, and support for those affected by addiction.

With the backing of her parents, Abhinesh and Ranjileen Prasad, both professionals in the tourism industry, Jiya is committed to pursuing her educational aspirations while also making a difference in her community. She hails from Maro, Nadroga, and is currently studying for a Bachelor of Arts and a Graduate Certificate in Education at the University of the South Pacific, with aspirations of becoming a lawyer.

Ramesh Naidu, the committee secretary of the event, expressed excitement about the continuation of the carnival after four years, with the crowning ceremony set for this Saturday.

Jiya’s commitment to raising awareness about addiction not only sheds light on this important issue but also highlights the power of community and collective strength in creating a healthier, more supportive environment for all. Her story inspires hope that through unity and compassion, progress can be made in addressing the challenges posed by addiction.
