Pacific Specialist Healthcare (PSH) has inaugurated a foundation dedicated to providing vital medical treatments to individuals in Fiji and the broader Pacific region who are unable to afford them. This initiative was praised by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance, Professor Biman Prasad, who expressed admiration for the efforts of PSH’s founder and board members.
The foundation’s objectives include the provision of free or heavily subsidized complex medical procedures aimed specifically at the most disadvantaged populations in Fiji and neighboring Pacific nations. Professor Prasad emphasized the importance of this initiative, noting it will alleviate the financial burden on those in need of serious medical care.
Founder and Chief Executive Parvish Kumar elaborated on the foundation’s mission, emphasizing that it not only represents a charitable effort but also a source of hope. “It’s about giving hope to those mothers who deny treatment due to difficult family circumstances and to those fathers who postpone their medical care to prioritize their families,” Kumar remarked.
The launch of this foundation is part of PSH’s broader strategy to democratize healthcare access in Fiji and the Pacific. The organization is actively seeking to establish partnerships with governmental bodies, businesses, and local communities to enhance and sustain these efforts.
PSH is also working to develop innovative payment options for patients facing financial hardships, as previously reported. The aim is to make complicated medical treatments more accessible, alleviating the fears of those who hesitate to seek care due to cost. Kumar stated that they aspire to provide certain complex treatments, including open-heart surgeries, at no charge or very low costs for eligible patients across the Pacific.
This initiative signifies a commendable effort by PSH to address healthcare inequities, fostering a future where crucial medical treatments are within reach for everyone, regardless of financial circumstances. By addressing these barriers, PSH is paving the way for a healthier and more equitable Pacific region.
