The Republic of Fiji Military Force’s 3rd Battalion, Fiji Infantry Regiment (3FIR), recently completed a long-range route march from Natovi to Nausori as part of their preparations for Infantry Day 2025. This march retraced significant historical footsteps, reflecting the path taken by the Fijian Battalion during World War II before their deployment to the Solomon Islands.

According to a statement from the RFMF, the event served as a tribute to the regiment’s enduring legacy, emphasizing heritage and commitment to national service. The troops showcased remarkable discipline, resilience, and unity throughout the challenging march, managing to complete it without any casualties. The final phase of the march featured a ceremonial procession through Nausori town, where members of the Logistic Support Unit joined the 3FIR troops, accompanied by the RFMF Brass Band.

The march wasn’t just a historical commemoration but also fostered community engagement along the route. This interaction reinforced the bond between the RFMF and the local populace, highlighting the military’s commitment to upholding public confidence and national unity. Major General Ro Jone Kalouniwai, the Commander of the RFMF, expressed that this event reflects their ongoing dedication to community connection and the importance of historical remembrance, both foundational aspects of the regiment’s identity.

This event echoes similar themes highlighted in previous RFMF activities, such as the recent graduations of new officers, which focused on leadership, commitment to national values, and serving with integrity. Such ongoing ceremonies and events emphasize the RFMF’s dedication to nurturing capable leaders and fostering strong connections with the community, ensuring a hopeful trajectory for Fiji’s military and its role in national service.

The successful completion of this march not only recognizes the historical significance but also reinforces the RFMF’s commitment to serving the nation while honoring its past, setting a positive tone for future endeavors within the military.
