Honoring Heroes: Fiji Police Celebrate Service and Sacrifice

At a recent ceremony in Labasa, the Northern Division recognized the dedication of police officers with the awarding of various medals, including the Fiji Police Medal, Fiji Police Long Service Medal, and Fiji Police Overseas Medal. Acting Commissioner of Police Juki Fong Chew emphasized the importance of service in his address, noting that being a positive influence in someone’s life is the highest form of recognition.

Fong Chew, who began his career in the Northern Division, praised the officers for their commitment to duty, particularly in challenging rural environments. He acknowledged the significant changes in the criminal landscape since his early days in the force and encouraged the officers to make efficient use of existing resources while advocating for improved staffing and funding.

In his remarks, he highlighted the achievements of the Fiji Revenue and Customs Service, which reported $3.1 billion in revenue, underscoring the vital role that police officers play in national security and economic stability. With numerous investment projects underway in Labasa, Fong Chew expressed gratitude for the officers’ contributions to fostering prosperity in the region.

The medal ceremony recognized eleven officers with the Fiji Police Medal, forty-four officers with the Fiji Police Long Service Medal, and nine officers with the Fiji Police Overseas Medal, affirming the value of their service regardless of public recognition.
