This year’s Christmas is shaping up to be particularly special for Kelevi Cavuduadua from Natubuniqio, Vugalei in Tailevu. His eldest son, Peniasi Kaloukocei Apisai, is returning home after two years in Australia, proudly bringing with him a Master’s degree in International Law and Diplomacy from the prestigious Australian National University (ANU). This accomplishment is especially significant as he is the first person from his village to achieve such a qualification, a fact that fills his father with immense pride.

Kelevi expressed his gratitude for the education that is benefiting the younger generation, acknowledging the encouragement from the village elders in emphasizing the importance of knowledge and religious values. “Our children are reaping the rewards of investing in higher education,” he noted, reflecting on the positive influence of education in their community.

In a heartwarming gesture, Peniasi’s younger brother, Apenisa, surprised their father last week by gifting him a ticket to attend the graduation ceremony in Australia. Apenisa, who is the eldest of five siblings, dedicated his achievement to their father, recognizing the sacrifices he made for their education after losing their mother to illness at a young age.

“I’ve always strived to embody the values of hard work instilled in us by our late mother,” Apenisa stated, highlighting his commitment to family values. He shared that he and his wife relocated to Australia in early 2023 for their studies, making the graduation event even more meaningful with his father’s presence alongside his youngest sister, Viinga.

In his acknowledgments, Apenisa expressed gratitude to various individuals and institutions that supported him, particularly his father, whose encouragement and sacrifices have been his source of strength. A family celebration is planned at their estate in Nakoromakawa, Natubuniqio Village, to commemorate this significant achievement.

This story illustrates the profound impact of education within families and communities, showcasing how individual accomplishments can inspire collective pride and hope for the future. As families emphasize the value of knowledge, it is clear that investment in education can lead to brighter opportunities for the next generation, fostering a spirit of resilience and aspiration.
