For Kuruvoli, who is from Nabouwalu, Ono, Kadavu, this journey holds deep personal significance. He expressed that returning to Kadavu is a special opportunity to reconnect with his roots and family. “For the Kadavu boys, it’s good to come and connect with the family and visit our people and villages,” he said, highlighting the joy of giving back to the home community, especially the youth.

Karawalevu echoed these sentiments of gratitude for the chance to hold the pre-season camp in his home region. He noted how it serves as a wonderful retreat, especially for teammates visiting Kadavu for the first time. Baselala, from Solotavui, Nakasaleka, emphasized the value of team bonding while showcasing his beautiful island to his teammates.

In a display of camaraderie and local engagement, the squad also participated in a boat race exercise at Namalata Bay, with local villagers cheering them on. Head coach Glen Jackson praised the experience, noting the combination of a scenic boat trip, pleasant weather, and a traditional kava ceremony contributed positively to the team’s morale.

With head of athletic performance Nacani Cawanibuka also being a local from Kadavu, the Drua men’s squad are set to return home tomorrow, leaving behind cherished memories and strengthened connections.

This heartwarming reunion not only reinforces the team’s unity but also highlights the significance of cultural ties and community support. The positive impact of this pre-season camp in Kadavu is likely to extend beyond mere athletic preparation, fostering lasting connections with their roots.

In summary, the Fijian Drua men’s squad is embracing their homecoming in Kadavu, creating meaningful memories while preparing for the season ahead. This experience serves as a reminder of the power of community connection and the beauty of returning to one’s roots.
