This Christmas is set to be exceptionally special for Kelevi Cavuduadua, a villager from Natubuniqio in Vugalei, as he celebrates the return of his eldest son, Peniasi Kaloukocei Apisai, from Australia. After two years of study, Peniasi is coming home with a remarkable gift in hand – a Master’s degree in International Law and Diplomacy from the Australian National University (ANU). This achievement makes him the first graduate in his village to earn such a qualification, bringing immense pride to his family and community.

In a heartfelt statement, Mr. Cavuduadua expressed gratitude for the positive impact education has had on their family. He lauded the contributions of the village elders who emphasized the significance of higher education and community values, acknowledging that these principles have contributed to their children’s success.

Peniasi’s journey was made even more meaningful when his brother Apenisa, 29, surprised their father with a ticket to Australia to attend the graduation ceremony. Apenisa, who is the eldest of five siblings, paid tribute to their late mother, whose sacrifices propelled them to pursue their education.

Reflecting on his origins, Apenisa shared his background, underscoring the hard work and determination taught by their mother. He relocated with his wife, Tenga Paueli, in January 2023 to pursue studies, and their graduation was celebrated together with family members who traveled from Fiji.

Apenisa expressed his gratitude to God, the Australian National University, and their supportive families. He dedicated his achievement to his father, acknowledging his unwavering dedication and encouragement throughout their journey. A family celebration is planned to honor this significant milestone at their home village.

This story not only showcases a personal achievement but also highlights the importance of familial support and the cultural values that guide communities toward success. The return of Peniasi symbolizes hope and inspiration, encouraging others to pursue their educational dreams and uplift their communities through knowledge.
