Holy Trinity Anglican School in Suva turned the HFC Bank Stadium into a lively venue yesterday as students participated in their annual inter-house competition. The event began at 9:30 AM, showcasing the athletic talents of students who competed in track events and in the jump pits. The rivalry came alive among four houses: Twitchell (blue), Holland (green), Kempthorn (red), and Vockler (yellow).

Assistant head teacher Dharmendra Shiromani emphasized the primary goal of the inter-house meet was to boost student participation. “Our main motive is to have more and more participation. We trained and prepared for this day, and here we are today,” Shiromani expressed with enthusiasm. This year’s competition saw the involvement of approximately 200-300 students, and Shiromani proudly noted that the level of competition was higher than in previous years, indicating an encouraging rise in student readiness and enthusiasm.

Organizing a meet of this scale presented its challenges, particularly in terms of securing appropriate facilities to accommodate the large number of participants. Shiromani pointed out that the school had also utilized the tracks at Marist Brothers High School for training, which helped improve their preparedness. “To better the results, we also went there to train,” he said.

Parents and guardians showed tremendous support, turning out in large numbers to cheer on their children, amplifying the festive and supportive atmosphere. This sense of community plays a crucial role in fostering a positive environment for young athletes.

The inter-house meet serves as a precursor to the upcoming zone meets, which are scheduled to take place in a few weeks. Holy Trinity Anglican School is keen to improve its medal tally at these forthcoming events, further motivating students and staff alike to aim higher.

The event at Holy Trinity Anglican School reflects a broader trend among Fijian schools, where there is a growing emphasis on athletics as a means to promote not only competition but also teamwork, personal development, and community spirit. With support from the school and community, the outlook for these young athletes remains optimistic as they prepare to take on higher levels of competition.
