A judge has dismissed Justin Baldoni’s $400 million defamation lawsuit against actors Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds, a significant development in the ongoing legal conflict surrounding the film “It Ends With Us.”

Baldoni claimed in his January lawsuit that Lively and Reynolds conspired to harm his career by taking control of the film’s production and marketing efforts. His legal action was an escalation of an already contentious dispute following the release of the movie, in which he directed and starred alongside Lively.

Following the court’s ruling, Lively’s attorneys celebrated the outcome as a complete vindication, labeling Baldoni’s lawsuit a “sham.” They indicated that motions to dismiss Baldoni’s claims by both Lively and Reynolds, as well as a defamation suit against the New York Times, were successfully granted by the court.

The judge determined that Baldoni may file amended complaints regarding specific allegations related to tortious interference by June 23, 2025. This ruling stems from Lively’s prior civil rights claims, which she initially filed in December 2024, alleging sexual harassment and retaliation by Baldoni during the film’s production. Baldoni has vehemently denied these accusations.

The court’s decision not only undid Baldoni’s claims but also emphasized the protection offered to Lively’s allegations under California law, a legislation that arose post the #MeToo movement, thereby shielding her civil rights complaint from being used as grounds for defamation.

This ongoing legal saga has been highly publicized, revealing deep-seated tensions between the involved parties. Lively’s initial lawsuit came with serious allegations of sexual harassment against Baldoni, which she further claimed were met with a retaliatory smear campaign. As details of the case continue to emerge, observers hope it will lead to broader discussions about workplace conduct and accountability in Hollywood.

Interestingly, as the legal matter evolves, both Lively and Baldoni’s cases highlight critical conversations regarding respect for women in the entertainment sector. While tensions have escalated between them, this situation serves as an opportunity for essential reforms in the industry, promoting a culture of safety and accountability for all involved.

The developments reflect the complexities of navigating personal relationships within a professional setting and underscore the importance of addressing maltreatment and maintaining respect in workplace dynamics. With such discussions rising to the forefront, many remain hopeful that this legal dispute will contribute positively to workplace reforms in Hollywood and prompt necessary changes for the future.
