The Valebalavu family is facing a challenging period this Christmas and New Year as they cope with 48-year-old Cema Adi Valebalavu’s battle against cervical cancer. Doctors at the Colonial War Memorial Hospital have informed the family, who resides in the Nukuboco Settlement in Nasinu, that Cema’s illness has reached its final stages, making further treatments or surgeries impossible. They have been advised to provide care for her at home.

In the face of financial strain, her husband, Timoci Valebalavu, 49, recently sold a mat that Cema wove to commemorate her birthday on New Year’s Eve. Timoci had to leave his job three months ago to look after Cema, and with an 81-year-old mother also requiring care, their son has become the primary breadwinner for the family.

The family’s situation shifted dramatically after Cema was diagnosed with cancer in September. As her health declined, they were compelled to seek hospital care again just before Christmas, where they were informed that treatment options were no longer viable.

Timoci is now reaching out to the community for support, acknowledging the difficulties they face in providing for Cema’s needs. He has emphasized that any assistance would be greatly appreciated, especially as his wife requires additional items like diapers.

Those interested in helping the Valebalavu family can contribute to Mr. Timoci Valebalavu’s Bred Bank account or via M-PAiSA. This outreach serves to raise awareness and hopefully garner assistance during this trying time, reflecting the resilience of families in facing health crises together.
