Holiday Drug Bust: Six Men in Custody in Fiji

Six individuals are currently in police custody as authorities investigate alleged possession of marijuana that took place on Christmas Day. This operation is part of the Fiji Police Force’s ongoing efforts to combat illegal drug activities during the festive season.

In the Southern Division, a 38-year-old unemployed man was apprehended in Nabua, Suva, after police discovered seven sachets of a substance believed to be marijuana, wrapped in aluminum foil. Furthermore, a raid in Qauia, Lami, led to the arrest of a 24-year-old unemployed individual found with a branch of dried leaves suspected to be marijuana. Additionally, a 52-year-old man from Nakelo, Tailevu, was arrested with 20 sachets of what is believed to be marijuana, also wrapped in aluminum foil.

In another incident, authorities apprehended two men from Vusuya, Kuku, near Nausori Town, who were found in Valelevu, Nasinu, with two ziplock bags containing a crystal-like substance suspected to be methamphetamine.

In the Western Division, a 50-year-old unemployed man from Tomuka, Lautoka, was also arrested for allegedly possessing five sachets of dried leaves believed to be marijuana.

As drug enforcement operations continue, Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations, Livai Driu, emphasizes a vigilant watch over popular picnic areas and communities to deter any unlawful activities.

This proactive approach by the police highlights their commitment to maintaining safety and order during a period that typically involves increased social gatherings and celebrations. Community awareness and cooperation can also play a significant role in fostering a safer and drug-free environment.
