On Christmas Day, police arrested six individuals for possession of illegal drugs across various locations.
A 38-year-old unemployed man from Nabua was found with seven sachets of dried leaves wrapped in aluminum foil, believed to be marijuana. In a separate incident, a 24-year-old unemployed man from Qauia, Lami, was also found with a branch of dried leaves suspected to be marijuana.
Authorities apprehended two men, aged 44 and 40, from Vusuya, Nausori, in Valelevu after they were discovered with two zip-lock bags containing a crystal-like substance believed to be methamphetamine. Additionally, a 52-year-old from Nakelo, Tailevu, was arrested with 20 sachets of dried leaves wrapped in aluminum foil, also suspected to be marijuana. In Lautoka, a 50-year-old unemployed man from Tomuka was taken into custody for having five sachets of dried leaves wrapped in aluminum foil, believed to be marijuana.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations, Livai Driu, stated that the police maintained vigilance for drug-related activities during the Christmas holiday. He indicated that police teams would continue their efforts to monitor picnic spots and communities for any suspicious activities.
All six suspects remain in police custody as drug analysis is pending and investigations move forward.
This situation highlights the ongoing efforts of law enforcement to combat drug possession, especially during holiday periods when the potential for unlawful activities may increase. Being vigilant during such times not only ensures public safety but also serves as a reminder of the continuing battle against substance abuse in the community.
