A 24-year-old from Qauia, Lami, was also taken into custody, having been discovered with a branch of dried leaves, again believed to be marijuana.
In another incident, two men aged 44 and 40 from Vusuya, Nausori, were arrested in Valelevu for possessing two zip-lock bags filled with a crystal-like substance suspected to be methamphetamine. Additionally, a 52-year-old man from Nakelo, Tailevu, was found with 20 sachets of dried leaves believed to be marijuana, while a 50-year-old unemployed man from Tomuka in Lautoka was caught with five similar sachets.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations, Livai Driu, mentioned that law enforcement continued to conduct drug checks during the holiday and would maintain vigilance in popular gathering areas and neighborhoods. All six suspects are currently in custody as investigations progress, and drug analysis is pending.
This incident serves as a reminder of the ongoing battle against drug-related issues within communities, even during festive occasions. As authorities remain proactive in monitoring and enforcing drug laws, the hope is that continued efforts will lead to a safer environment for all.
