Denmark’s Holger Rune overcame a challenging start to defeat Brazil’s Thiago Seyboth Wild and secure his spot in the Wimbledon third round on Thursday. The 21-year-old, seeded 15th, lost the first set after dropping serve early but bounced back to win the match 3-6 6-3 6-2 6-2.
Rune, a quarter-finalist last year, will next face French qualifier Quentin Halys, who defeated 21st seed Karen Khachanov in a five-set thriller.
Known for his potential to contest for a Grand Slam title in the future, Rune maintained his composure despite the unpredictable play of Seyboth Wild and the challenging windy conditions on Court 18. He captivated fans with his powerful groundstrokes and finesse, highlighted by a remarkable running backhand pass.
Seyboth Wild also displayed impressive skills but ultimately could not match Rune’s level of play.
