The Ministry of Health and Medical Services has announced that vital Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) medications are currently being distributed under controlled conditions while they await new supplies. According to the Ministry, this includes Antiretroviral (ARV) medications, also referred to as Antiretroviral Therapy (ART), which comprise a group of drugs used in the treatment of HIV.
These medications play a crucial role in preventing the replication of HIV and protecting CD4 cells, which are essential components of the immune system. The Ministry has placed an order for additional HIV medications through the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) as part of a formal agreement and is actively following up with suppliers, expressing optimism that more supplies will be available by the end of the month.
In the interim, HIV patients are being provided with alternative medication regimens that are adequate for a one-month supply per individual. The Ministry is committed to closely monitoring the situation to ensure that all patients have access to necessary treatments.
This proactive approach demonstrates the Ministry’s commitment to safeguarding the health and well-being of individuals living with HIV. With ongoing efforts to secure essential medications, there is hope for continued support and care for those affected by this condition.
