The Ministry of Health and Medical Services has announced that essential Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) medications are currently under controlled distribution while awaiting new supplies. This includes Antiretroviral (ARV) medications, also referred to as Antiretroviral Therapy (ART), which consist of a combination of drugs aimed at treating HIV.

According to the Ministry’s statement, these medications play a critical role in inhibiting the replication of the virus and safeguarding CD4 cells that are vital for a healthy immune system. The Ministry has placed an order for HIV medications through the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) under a formal agreement, and is actively engaging with suppliers to facilitate the timely arrival of additional supplies by the end of the month.

In the interim, HIV patients are using alternative medication regimens that suffice for a one-month dosage per individual. The Ministry reassures that it will be closely monitoring the availability and distribution of these essential medical supplies.

This proactive approach by the Ministry reflects a commitment to ensuring the health and safety of individuals living with HIV, emphasizing their well-being amidst supply challenges. The collaboration with UNDP also highlights a concerted effort to secure necessary treatments, showcasing a dedicated response to public health needs. There is optimism that the situation will stabilize soon, providing patients with the consistent care they need.
