The Ministry of Health and Medical Services has announced that essential medication for Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) is currently under controlled distribution while awaiting new supplies. This important medication includes Antiretroviral (ARV) drugs, which are vital components of Antiretroviral Therapy (ART) used to treat HIV.

In their statement, the Ministry highlighted the significance of these medications, as they inhibit the replication of HIV and protect CD4 cells, a crucial element of the immune system. The Ministry has placed an order for HIV medication through a collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and is following up with suppliers to ensure timely delivery.

Currently, there are alternative treatment options available, which provide enough medication for a one-month supply per patient. The Ministry is committed to closely monitoring the supply situation during this interim period.

This proactive approach by the Ministry reflects a dedicated effort to ensure that HIV patients continue to receive the necessary treatment while working towards restoring regular supply channels. The situation underscores the importance of global collaboration in healthcare, offering hope that timely access to essential medications will soon be restored.
