Historic State Visit: India’s President Droupadi Murmu Makes Waves in Fiji

President Droupadi Murmu of India embarked on a two-day State Visit to Fiji, arriving this morning at Nausori International Airport, where she received a guard of honor consisting of 100 personnel.

Upon her arrival, she was warmly welcomed by Fijian Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka and Minister for Home Affairs Pio Tikoduadua. This visit marks the first time an Indian Head of State has visited Fiji, underscoring the increasing significance of India’s relationship with nations in the Pacific region.

Later today, President Murmu will participate in a traditional welcoming ceremony and pay a courtesy visit to Fijian President Wiliame Katonivere at State House. Her agenda includes a Special Sitting of Parliament, a bilateral meeting with the Prime Minister, and a State Reception hosted by President Katonivere this evening.

Additionally, the Indian President plans to visit the National War Memorial and engage with members of the Indian diaspora, as well as inaugurate several noteworthy development projects. This State Visit is poised to further strengthen the robust bilateral ties between Fiji and India, characterized by deep-rooted economic, cultural, and political connections.
