Historic Rugby League Matches to Be Broadcast Live: A Game-Changer for Fiji’s Young Athletes!

The 2025 Fiji Secondary Schools Rugby League (FSSRL) national quarterfinals, semifinals, and finals will be broadcast live on FBC Sports for the first time. This significant partnership between the Fijian Broadcasting Corporation (FBC) and FSSRL was officially confirmed yesterday with a three-year agreement.

The matches are set to take place at two key locations: the national quarterfinals and finals will be hosted at Prince Charles Park in Nadi, while Garvey Park in Tavua will serve as the venue for the semifinals. FSSRL president Naisa Toko described this collaboration as a historic moment for the organization, pointing out that it provides an excellent platform for players to showcase their talents to potential overseas scouts.

FBC Director of TV, Sitiveni Halofaki, emphasized the significance of this event in the schools sports calendar, noting the opportunity it creates for viewers to witness the exciting matchups. Over 100 schools are expected to participate in this competition, with action commencing this weekend across the various zones.

This collaboration reflects a growing commitment to elevating grassroots rugby in Fiji, similar to other initiatives aimed at nurturing local talent, like the upcoming Fiji Bitter Nawaka 7s and the FSC U20 7s competition. As rugby continues to be a vital part of Fijian culture, these developments highlight the importance of providing pathways for young athletes to excel in the sport.

With these exciting opportunities on the horizon, there is a palpable sense of enthusiasm surrounding Fiji’s rugby scene, showcasing the nation’s dedication to fostering talent and promoting sports as a unifying force within the community.
