Historic Leadership Installation Set to Unite Lau Community

Hundreds of people are currently gathering in Tubou Village, Lakeba, as the community prepares for the significant installation of Ratu Tevita Kapaiwai Lutunauga Uluilakeba Mara as the Tui Nayau, Tui Lau, and Sau ni Vanua ko Lau. The atmosphere in Tubou and across Nayau Island is filled with excitement as the formal confirmation for Ratu Tevita’s leadership role is set to take place tomorrow.

Organising Committee Member Ratu Tevita Vakacereivalu highlighted the vital role of the youth in the preparations, emphasizing the commitment of the Vanua to pass down their cultural traditions to future generations. To facilitate this, the Ministry of Education has approved a two-week break for students of Ratu Finau Secondary School, enabling them to partake in this historic event.

In a traditional display of respect and unity, the youth of Lau will gather along the shores of Tubou on Tuesday to welcome Ratu Tevita upon his return from Nayau. The main installation ceremony is scheduled for tomorrow, with the subsequent official rites for Tui Lau and Sau ni Vanua taking place on Thursday in Tubou, an occasion that underscores the importance of cultural heritage in the region.
