Brad and Kiana Takairangi are set to make history as they captain the Cook Islands Aitu and Moana teams in Saturday’s Pacific Championships double-header against Fiji. This marks a groundbreaking achievement as it is the first time a brother-sister duo has led their nation’s men’s and women’s teams at the same time.
Kiana will take charge of the Moana while Brad will captain the Aitu. They both qualify for representation through their father, Louis Takairangi.
Kiana, who was part of Newcastle’s 2022 NRLW premiership-winning squad, expressed her excitement about her inaugural captaincy role.
As both teams strive for victory to maintain their qualification hopes, the Aitu is focused on gaining respect for their small nation and encouraging more athletes to represent the Cook Islands.
