The inaugural OFC Futsal Women’s Nations Cup is set to begin this weekend in the Solomon Islands. This event is particularly fitting given the Solomon Islands’ strong tradition in men’s Futsal, having won the OFC Futsal Men’s Nations Cup six times and participated in four FIFA Futsal World Cups.

In the opening match scheduled for Saturday evening, the Fijian team, led by former Solomon Islands futsal player Jerry Sam, will compete against Tahiti. Sam, who now oversees Fiji’s Futsal and beach soccer initiatives, highlighted the significance of this tournament for advancing women’s Futsal in the region.

“It’s crucial that OFC has established this pathway for women’s Futsal. This first-ever Futsal Women’s Nations Cup represents progress and should encourage more women to get involved in the futsal community,” Sam stated.

Fiji will face Tahiti tomorrow at 6 pm.
