Seventeen-year-old Carletta Yee will etch her name in history this Saturday as she becomes the youngest player to ever debut for the Rooster Chicken Fijian Drua during their match against the Brumbies in Round 3 of the Super Rugby Women’s competition. Excitement surrounds this milestone, particularly as Yee’s debut coincides with the first appearance of seasoned Olympic bronze medalist Rusila Nagasau, a former captain of the Fijiana 7s team, enhancing the experience within the forward pack.
Head coach Ifereimi Rawaqa has made noteworthy adjustments to the starting lineup, continuing his approach of squad rotation. Yee will partner with Fuga Ofakimalino in the lock positions, while Nagasau will take the blindside flanker role. The back row consists of Nunia Daunimoala and Bitila Tawake filling the openside and number eight positions, respectively.
Adding muscle to the front row, powerhouse prop Ana Korovata will position herself at loosehead, with Tiana Robanakadavu on tight head and Loraini Senivutu serving as hooker. The backline highlights vice-captain Vitalina Naikore transitioning from center to left wing. Experienced halfback Setaita Railumu and flyhalf Salanieta Kinita will form a pivotal partnership in the halves. Ema Adivitaloga and Merewairita Neivosa round out the midfield, while Repeka Tove and Litiana Vueti occupy the wings and fullback positions.
The match-day squad includes former Brumbies players Anasimeci Korovata and Kolora Lomani, who will offer key insights into their opponents’ tactics.
With Yee’s groundbreaking debut and the addition of Nagasau, the Drua will strive to deliver a compelling performance against the Brumbies in front of a supportive home crowd at Churchill Park, slated for kickoff at 3:35 PM. This game presents not only an opportunity for victory but also shines a spotlight on the advancements and potential growth of women’s rugby in Fiji, inspiring a new generation of female athletes.
The enthusiasm surrounding the emergence of young talents like Yee epitomizes hope for aspiring sportswomen in the region, showcasing the remarkable achievements that can arise from hard work and dedication.
