Rugby Revolution: Youngest Player Set to Make History for Fijian Drua

Historic Debut: Meet the Youngest Fijian Rugby Star Changing the Game

The Rooster Chicken Fijian Drua women’s rugby team is poised for a momentous debut this week, as 17-year-old Carletta Yee prepares to become the youngest player in history to represent the Drua. This milestone will take place during their match against the Brumbies in Round 3 of the Super Rugby Women. Adding to the excitement, seasoned Olympian Rusila Nagasau, a former captain of the Fijiana 7s team and a bronze medalist, will also make her debut in this important matchup.

Head coach Ifereimi Rawaqa has made strategic changes to the starting lineup, bringing in powerful prop Ana Korovata as loose-head, while Tiana Robanakadavu takes on the tight-head role. Last week’s standout performer, Loraini Senivutu, will be at hooker. Carletta Yee will partner with Fuga Ofakimalino in the lock positions. Meanwhile, Nagasau is set to play blindside flanker, joined by Nunia Daunimoala on openside and Bitila Tawake at number 8.

The backline features experienced player Setaita Railumu at halfback, paired with flyhalf Salanieta Kinita. Vice-captain Vitalina Naikore is shifting from center to left wing, with Repeka Tove on the right wing. Ema Adivitaloga and Merewairita Neivosa will occupy the center positions, while Litiana Vueti rounds out the starting lineup as fullback.

The bench is strong, featuring Keleni Marawa as a backup hooker and support from Salanieta Nabuli and captain Vika Matarugu in the front row. Alfreda Fisher and Karalaini Naisewa bring depth to the locks and loose forwards, respectively. The team aims to demonstrate their growth and potential after facing the Queensland Reds earlier in the season.

This impending match is essential for both the Drua and the Brumbies, each seeking their first victory of the season after facing challenges in their previous games. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:35 PM at Churchill Park, and fans are expected to rally behind the Drua, anticipating an inspirational display of talent and development in women’s rugby across Fiji.

The rise of young athletes like Carletta Yee serves as a beacon of hope and inspiration for aspiring female sports players in the region, exemplifying how dedication and hard work can pave the way for future generations to excel in the world of sports.
