The eagerly awaited ZEG Kings Boxing Promotion event is set to take place this weekend at the Vodafone Arena in Suva, featuring an exciting main event between Australia’s Runqi Zhou and local talent Junior Binnu Singh for the WBA Oceania Super Bantamweight title. This match is historic, marking the first WBA title fight ever held in Fiji, which has generated considerable enthusiasm within the boxing community.
Runqi Zhou, known as the ‘Fist of Fury’, arrives in Fiji with a professional record of nine wins, three losses, and one draw. During his arrival at Nadi International Airport, Zhou expressed excitement about returning to Fiji to fight, saying, “I feel very good, and I appreciate that I can come to Fiji and fight again.” This bout comes after a previous controversial fight he had with the late Ubayd Haider in October 2024, which had significant emotional weight for both the fighters and fans.
Junior Binnu Singh, nicknamed the ‘Valley King’, has a record of 12 wins and just one loss. His motivation for this fight is deeply personal; he aims to honor his close friend Ubayd Haider, who tragically lost his life following a match with Zhou. Singh has emphasized the importance of this fight, noting that he wants to prove that there are other competitive fighters in Fiji. He said, “The biggest motivation to fight Runqi Zhou is because he fought Nathan (Ubayd Haider). Nathan was just like my brother.”
The event is not only significant for the fighter’s personal journeys but also represents a major step forward for boxing in Fiji. Promoter Nahroon Buksh has highlighted the potential growth and recognition for the sport in the region, and local officials are optimistic that this exposure will inspire young boxers and elevate Fiji’s status as a boxing hub.
The fight card for the night includes a total of 10 professional bouts and six exhibition matches, starting with the exhibitions at 4:30 PM, followed by the main program at 6 PM. Other notable matches include James Singh versus Semi Daloloma for the BCF Heavyweight title and a female bout featuring Sera Bolatini against Australia’s Connie Chan for the WBA Oceania title.
As the anticipation builds for Saturday’s showdown, the event signifies a hopeful era for Fijian boxing, showcasing local talents on an international stage and elevating the sport’s profile within the community. Tickets for this monumental night are already on sale, and boxing enthusiasts are encouraged to secure theirs to not miss out on what promises to be an electrifying experience.
