The tourism industry continues to be a crucial component of Fiji’s economy, playing a significant role in the growth of the gross domestic product and increasing employment opportunities, according to Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance Professor Biman Prasad.
Prasad made these comments during the launch of the initial phase of the $75 million Hilton Garden Inn Hotel construction in Suva. He emphasized that while diversification efforts are underway, the reliance on tourism remains substantial and will persist in the future.
The addition of the Hilton Garden Inn to Fiji’s hospitality industry is expected to enhance the country’s tourism infrastructure. Prasad expressed gratitude to the Carpenters Group and all stakeholders involved, highlighting their 156 years of presence in Fiji as a testament to their commitment and vision for future projects.
Additionally, Investment Fiji CEO Kamal Chetty noted that the new hotel would help alleviate the accommodation shortage in Suva, providing a new brand and lodging options for business travelers and others in the area. He remarked on the confidence this project reflects in Fiji’s economy and welcomed the progress it has made after being in development for some time.
