The Acting Director of Public Prosecutions, Nancy Tikoisuva, announced that they are nearing the completion of the vetting process for two significant cases currently under investigation.

The first case involves the theft of $450,000 from the Police Credit Union and allegations of misconduct by senior officials within the Fiji Police Force. These allegations were brought to light earlier this year by Assistant Police Commissioner for Crime, Mesake Waqa, during a special general meeting of the Fiji Police Credit Union. Ms. Tikoisuva indicated that a prosecution officer from her office is thoroughly examining the findings to ensure accuracy and thoroughness in the oversight.

“We are undergoing final checks and have a vetting process in place,” Ms. Tikoisuva stated. “We need to verify that our findings are consistent, or to determine if different individuals have identified aspects that may have been previously overlooked.” She confirmed that the completion of the report is expected by the following Friday, November 29.

In addition, Ms. Tikoisuva shared that a report on a tragic Ferris wheel accident is also anticipated to be released before November 29. This report involves the unfortunate death of a 21-year-old woman who fell from a Ferris wheel at the 2023 Fiji Showcase held at the Vodafone Arena carpark in Suva.

“These cases require thorough and careful investigation before any decisions are made,” Ms. Tikoisuva emphasized. She explained that once the investigation is concluded, the report will be evaluated by another prosecutor before it is presented to her for final approval.

Overall, the commitment to rigorous investigations indicates a positive step toward accountability and justice in these serious matters, instilling hope that the outcomes will reflect thorough deliberation and integrity in the legal process.

In summary, the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions is diligently working on two high-profile cases involving significant theft and a tragic accident, both of which are expected to yield detailed reports soon.
