The Acting Director of Public Prosecutions, Nancy Tikoisuva, announced that they are in the final stages of reviewing two significant cases. The first case involves the theft of $450,000 from the Police Credit Union and accusations of misconduct involving senior officials of the Fiji Police Force. These allegations, brought to light by Assistant Police Commissioner of Crime, Mesake Waqa, were discussed during a special general meeting of the Fiji Police Credit Union earlier this year. Tikoisuva noted that the case is being thoroughly examined by a prosecution officer from her office.
Tikoisuva emphasized the importance of a meticulous vetting process to ensure all details have been considered and that prior oversights are avoided. She indicated that the finalized report for this case is expected by Friday, November 29.
In addition, Ms. Tikoisuva updated the public on another matter: the report concerning a tragic Ferris wheel accident that resulted in the death of a 21-year-old woman at the 2023 Fiji Showcase in Suva. She said this report is also expected to be released before next Friday. Tikoisuva reiterated the necessity for comprehensive investigations to be conducted before any final decisions are made, adding that the reports are reviewed by an additional prosecutor for thoroughness before receiving her final approval.
These ongoing investigations reflect a commitment to transparency and accountability, which is vital for public trust in law enforcement and judicial processes.
In summary, the Acting Director of Public Prosecutions is diligently working on high-profile cases, including a theft from a law enforcement institution and a fatal incident, ensuring thorough investigations and proper procedures are followed to uphold justice in Fiji.
