Nancy Tikoisuva, the Acting Director of Public Prosecutions, has announced that they are nearing the completion of the vetting process for two significant cases. One of these cases involves a theft of $450,000 from the Police Credit Union, accompanied by allegations of abuse of office by some senior officials within the Fiji Police Force. These charges were brought to light by Assistant Police Commissioner for Crime, Mesake Waqa, during a Special General Meeting of the Fiji Police Credit Union earlier this year.
Tikoisuva emphasized the importance of thoroughness in their investigative process, stating that multiple staff members are reviewing the report to ensure no details are overlooked. The finalized report is expected to be ready by next Friday, November 29.
Additionally, Tikoisuva mentioned that the report regarding the tragic Ferris wheel accident, which resulted in the death of a 21-year-old woman during the 2023 Fiji Showcase at the Vodafone Arena carpark in Suva, is also expected to be released before next Friday.
“Both of these cases are significant and require thorough investigation before any decisions are made,” Tikoisuva said, outlining the steps involved in the prosecution process, including further vetting once the investigation is complete.
This proactive approach to addressing serious allegations and ensuring comprehensive investigations prior to making decisions is commendable, highlighting the commitment to accountability and justice. As these reports come to fruition, there is hope for transparency and proper resolution in these troubling matters.
