Nancy Tikoisuva, the Acting Director of Public Prosecutions, announced that her office is nearing the completion of two significant cases. The first case involves a theft of $450,000 from the Police Credit Union and includes allegations of misconduct by some high-ranking officials within the Fiji Police Force. These allegations were initially brought to light by Assistant Police Commissioner for Crime, Mesake Waqa, during a special meeting of the Fiji Police Credit Union earlier this year.

Ms. Tikoisuva explained that the prosecution team is currently performing final checks to ensure the integrity of their findings, which will involve a thorough vetting process. She emphasized the importance of consistency and verifying that nothing has been overlooked during the investigation. A comprehensive report on this case is expected to be finalized by the following Friday, November 29.

In addition, Ms. Tikoisuva mentioned that a report concerning a tragic incident where a 21-year-old woman lost her life after falling from a Ferris wheel during the 2023 Fiji Showcase will also be released prior to next Friday. She stated that both these cases require careful investigation, and once completed, the reports will undergo a review process before she gives her final approval.

These efforts highlight the commitment to ensure accountability and thoroughness in the judicial process, which is vital for public trust and safety. As these cases advance, it is hopeful that they will lead to positive changes within the systems involved and foster a stronger sense of accountability in public service.

Summary: The Acting Director of Public Prosecutions, Nancy Tikoisuva, confirmed that her office is finalizing two major cases: one concerning a significant theft from the Police Credit Union involving police misconduct, and another regarding a Ferris wheel accident resulting in a young woman’s death. Reports on these cases are expected soon, emphasizing the importance of thorough and accountable investigations.
