The Lautoka High Court is set to announce its decision tomorrow on the state’s request to destroy 4.1 tonnes of methamphetamine that was seized in Nadi last December. Yesterday, several individuals, including Justin Ho, David Heritage, Louie Logaivau, Jale Aukerea, Sakiusa Tuva, Keanie Mcpherson, Ratu Aporosa Davelevu, Ratu Osea Levula, Cathy Tuirabe, and Viliame Colawaliku, appeared before Justice Aruna Aluthge.

The court is waiting on the state to submit a plan for the destruction of the seized drugs, which is necessary before the ruling can be made. Additionally, the court has instructed both the prosecution and defense to resolve pre-trial matters by January 31, 2025, while the hearing and trial are scheduled for April 21 to May 23, 2025.

Bail has been granted to all accused individuals except Cathy Tuirabe and Viliame Colawaliku, who are currently wanted by the police for failing to appear as required. Furthermore, Justin Ho, Louie Logaivau, and Jale Aukerea have been subjected to a curfew from 6 PM to 6 AM as a condition of their bail.

All accused face charges relating to the unlawful importation and possession of illicit drugs, as well as possession of property suspected to be derived from criminal activity. The proceedings will continue tomorrow for the anticipated ruling.

This case highlights ongoing efforts by authorities to combat drug trafficking and uphold the rule of law. The court’s actions demonstrate a commitment to judicial processes and ensure that every step is taken to address drug-related crimes effectively. As the legal processes unfold, there is hope that justice will prevail and that measures will be taken to prevent such activities in the future.
