The Suva High Court has issued a Restraining Order concerning two properties tied to a significant drug case involving 4.1 tonnes of illicit substances, currently under trial at the Lautoka High Court. This legal action follows an application filed by the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) in the Civil High Court.
The properties in question, located in Denarau, Nadi, total approximately 2,450 square meters and are valued at $8.8 million. They were identified as storage sites for the seized drugs associated with Justin Ho, one of the accused facing multiple drug-related charges. The ODPP is petitioning for a final order to forfeit these properties to the State, and the Restraining Order ensures that these assets remain intact while the forfeiture application is resolved.
Additionally, the ODPP has filed another civil forfeiture application linked to other properties suspected of being involved in criminal activities. The hearing for this matter is scheduled for September 30 this year.
In light of ongoing judicial proceedings related to drug offenses, the ODPP is intensifying its focus on the identification and seizure of assets believed to be associated with criminal conduct, particularly in the realm of drug trafficking. This strategy aims to dismantle the financial networks that support such criminal enterprises.
These developments reflect a broader commitment by authorities to combat drug trafficking and associated crimes. The proactive measures taken by the legal system serve not only to uphold justice but also to enhance public safety by targeting the financial motivations behind such illicit activities. Law enforcement is resolute in its mission to disrupt criminal operations, fostering hope for a safer community in the future.
