Ba Methodist High School’s Under-19 rugby team, captained by Kaliova Bulai, is fully prepared for the Western Secondary Schools Rugby Deans Championship quarterfinal at Prince Charles Park in Nadi tomorrow. They are set to face Sigatoka Valley Secondary School in what promises to be an exciting match.
Coached by Paula Tuiloma, the team recently secured a dominant 31-3 victory over Nasau Secondary School in the Ba/Tavua/Ra Zone final held at Garvey Park in Tavua last Saturday. Several players from this team also represented Ba Methodist in the U18 Sevens Rugby team that narrowly lost to Ratu Navula College in the Term One holidays.
“This is the first time we are fielding three teams, and I hope the Under-19 side makes a significant impact,” said David King Wise, PEMAC head of the department. “The team looks in top form, and the boys’ morale is at its peak.”
Key players for the Ba Methodist lineup include prop Bulai, full-back Pio Bosco Tikoisuva (Jnr), and winger Petero Dauniseka.
In the U16 grade, the team led by Josateki Naliva will also face Sigatoka Methodist College in the quarterfinal. “This team is composed of only 16 boys who were left out from the other two teams, and they have performed exceptionally well. They were undefeated in the zone and hope to advance beyond the quarters,” Wise added.
The U16 team, coached by Thomas Vuto, features standout flankers Rupeni Nailatikau and Asivorosi Nahiga, who will play crucial roles in the breakdowns.
The U15 team, captained by Osea Naura, is set to compete against Cuvu College. “This is the same group of boys that made history earlier this year by winning the National Secondary Schools Rugby League Under-15 grade final,” Wise noted. The team includes notable players such as Seruvi Vakalolo, Semi Sasai, and Eneri Saunivalu.
