A lawyer representing rapper Jay-Z has requested a court to dismiss a lawsuit that accuses him and Sean “Diddy” Combs of raping a 13-year-old girl in the year 2000, citing inconsistencies in the allegations. The claimant, an Alabama woman identified as Jane Doe, alleges that the artists drugged and assaulted her at a house party following the MTV Video Music Awards.
The woman mentioned engaging with a celebrity at the event; however, his representative confirmed that he was on tour at that time. Additionally, her father stated that he has no recollection of driving five hours to pick her up after the alleged incident, as she asserted. In a recent interview, the woman admitted to making “some mistakes” in her allegations but continues to maintain her claim.
Experts in rape support stress that it is not uncommon for victims of such assaults to misremember details, especially in cases involving potential drugging. The lawsuit is one of many sexual assault claims against Combs, who is currently in custody awaiting trial for federal sex-trafficking charges in New York, having been denied bail for the third time last month. Combs has vehemently denied all allegations.
Jay-Z’s attorney, Alex Spiro, criticized the lawsuit’s filing, stating that it was shocking that such serious accusations were presented without adequate vetting and described the situation as a baseless attempt for publicity and financial gain. Similarly, Combs’ legal representative emphasized that this lawsuit is part of a pattern of exploitation by the plaintiff’s attorney.
According to Jane Doe’s lawsuit, she was given a drink by a waitress at the party, which made her feel “woozy,” leading her to seek refuge in a room. Subsequently, she claims that Jay-Z and Combs entered the room with a third celebrity, and the alleged assault occurred. However, evidence suggests that both artists were at a different location during the evening in question.
The plaintiff has identified the Madden brothers as among those present at the party, though their representatives asserted they were on tour and not involved in any wrongdoing. The woman’s father expressed doubt about the supposed five-hour drive to collect his daughter after the incident.
Despite the prevailing skepticism, the attorney for the plaintiff committed to thoroughly vetting her claims, indicating that she is open to undergoing a polygraph test—a testament to her confidence in the truth of her account. The woman, now 38 years old and a mother of two, encourages others in similar situations to find the courage to come forward.
