The hearing for suspended Assistant Commissioner of Corrections Salote Panapasa has been postponed due to complications regarding her legal representation. During her appearance at the Suva Magistrates Court, Panapasa informed the court that her lawyer’s practicing certificate had expired, leading to the delay. The case has now been rescheduled for July 30.
Panapasa faces serious allegations, including two counts of abuse of office and an alternative charge of general dishonesty causing a loss. These charges stem from her actions while in office between August 1 and October 30, 2023, wherein it is alleged that she ordered corrections officers to use government building materials for her personal home. Additionally, she is accused of altering an official report to conceal the improper use of these materials.
