Former Attorney General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum, former Fiji Airways executive for Corporate Affairs Shaenaz Voss, and Fiji Airways Safety, Security, and Quality General Manager Sharun Ali, along with Fiji Airlines t/a Fiji Link, have been granted a non-cash bail of $10,000 by the Magistrate’s Court in Nadi. They are facing a total of 66 charges approved by the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

Magistrate Semi Babitu imposed conditions on their bail, requiring the accused to surrender their passports, provide two sureties, adhere to stop-departure orders, and avoid any interaction with prosecution witnesses.

Sayed-Khaiyum faces multiple charges, including 11 counts of unlawful carriage of a firearm on an aircraft, 11 counts of receiving a corrupt benefit, 11 counts of breach of trust by a public servant, and 11 counts of abuse of office. Voss is charged with three counts of giving a corrupt benefit, while Ali faces 11 counts of the same offense.

Additionally, Voss, Ali, and Fiji Airline t/a Fiji Link are facing charges related to breaches of mandatory reporting of security occurrences and airline security regulations. The accusations fall under the Civil Aviation (Security) Act 1994, Civil Aviation (Security) Regulations 1994, and Crimes Act 2009.

Acting Assistant Director of Public Prosecutions Laisani Tabuakuro did not oppose the bail but requested a cash bail bond of $50,000, spot-departure orders for the trio, and a prohibition on contacting witnesses. She highlighted the risk of interference, particularly concerning Ali, who remains employed by Fiji Airways, where many witnesses are his current or former colleagues.

Tabuakuro requested an extension of six weeks to provide additional disclosures, and the case is set to reconvene on November 14.
