High-Profile Figures Face Charges Over Air Travel Security Breach

The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions has approved charges against a former senior government official and two high-ranking executives connected to a case involving the illegal transportation of firearms and ammunition on a domestic flight.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Crime Mesake Waqa announced that the former government official faces several charges, including abuse of office, breach of trust by a public servant, receiving corrupt benefits, and unlawful transport of firearms and ammunition on an aircraft.

The two former executives have been charged with providing corrupt benefits to a public official, failing to report security incidents as required, and not adhering to the security protocols of the aircraft company.

The Assistant Commissioner stated that the aircraft company itself is also being held responsible for failing to comply with its security program and for not reporting security incidents as mandated.

All three individuals are scheduled to appear in Nadi Magistrates Court today, with a representative from the aircraft company also expected to attend.
