Former Attorney-General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum is set to appear in court today at the Nadi Magistrates Court, facing numerous charges related to abuse of office, breach of trust, and illegal possession of firearms on aircraft.
Sayed-Khaiyum is facing 11 counts of illegally carrying a firearm onto an aircraft, 11 counts of accepting corrupt benefits, 11 counts of breach of trust as a public servant, and 11 counts of abuse of office.
This afternoon, Acting Director of Public Prosecutions, Nancy Tikoisuva, approved charges not only against Sayed-Khaiyum but also against former Executive General of Corporate Affairs at Fiji Airways, Shaenaz Voss, and Fiji Airways General Manager for Safety, Security and Quality, Sharun Ali, as well as Fiji Airlines, trading as Fiji Link.
Shaenaz Voss is charged with three counts of providing corrupt benefits, while Sharun Ali faces 11 counts of the same offense. Furthermore, Voss, Ali, and Fiji Airlines are charged with five counts of failing to report security incidents properly and three counts of violating airline security regulations.
The charges against the individuals are based on the Civil Aviation (Security) Act 1994, Civil Aviation (Security) Regulations 1994, and Crimes Act 2009.
All accused are expected to be presented at the Nadi Magistrates’ Court later today.
