High-Profile Charges Laid in Unlawful Firearms Case on Domestic Flight

The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions has approved charges against a former senior government official and two former senior executives related to the unlawful transport of firearms and ammunition on a domestic flight.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Crime, Mesake Waqa, reported that the former government official faces charges for abuse of office, breach of trust as a public servant, receiving corrupt benefits, and unlawful carriage of firearms and ammunition on an aircraft.

The two former executives are charged with providing corrupt benefits to a public official, failing to report security occurrences as mandated, and violating compliance regulations of the aircraft company’s Security Programme.

Additionally, the aircraft company is being held responsible for non-compliance with its security protocols and mandatory incident reporting. The three individuals are set to appear in Nadi Magistrates Court today, accompanied by a representative from the aircraft company.
