The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions has approved charges against a former senior government official and two senior executives for their involvement in the unlawful transport of firearms and ammunition on a domestic flight.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Crime, Mesake Waqa, reported that the former government official faces charges for abuse of office, breach of trust as a public servant, receiving corrupt benefits, and the unlawful carriage of firearms and ammunition on an aircraft.
Meanwhile, the two former executives are charged with giving corrupt benefits to a public official, failing to report security incidents as required, and violating the aircraft company’s security program compliance protocols.
Additionally, the aircraft company itself is being held responsible for not adhering to its security program and for failing to report security occurrences as mandated.
The three individuals are set to appear in Nadi Magistrates Court today, accompanied by a representative from the aircraft company.
