The High Court in Suva has issued a Restraining Order regarding two properties associated with a significant drug trafficking case currently under trial at the Lautoka High Court. The prosecution’s request was filed by the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP), seeking the application under the Proceeds of Crimes Act 1997.
According to the ODPP, the restrained properties are located in Denarau, Nadi, and consist of an area of 1293 square meters and another of 1157 square meters. These properties have been identified as storage sites for 4.1 tonnes of illicit drugs linked to Justin Ho, one of the individuals facing multiple drug-related charges. The total value of these properties is approximately $8.8 million.
The ODPP aims to secure a permanent forfeiture of the properties to the State under the Act’s provisions. The Restraining Order will ensure that these assets remain intact while the forfeiture case is pending.
In addition, the ODPP has filed another civil forfeiture application related to additional properties suspected of being linked to drug-related offenses, with a hearing set for September 30, 2025. This move is part of the ODPP’s broader strategy to enhance efforts in the identification and seizure of assets tied to criminal activities, particularly surrounding drug offenses.
These legal actions reflect a strong commitment from authorities to combat drug trafficking and disrupt financial networks that support criminal activities, fostering hope for a safer community as these measures are implemented. The judicial system’s active pursuit of justice not only aims to address the immediate circumstances but also contributes significantly to public safety by dismantling the financial incentives behind drug-related crimes.
