High Court Set to Revisit Controversial Case of Former Fijian MP

The High Court is set to hear the motion to dismiss the case involving former FijiFirst Member of Parliament, Vijendra Prakash, next Thursday. The matter was brought before Justice Pita Bulamainaivalu this morning. Although the hearing was initially scheduled for today, Counsel Siddharth Nandan was absent, with Suva lawyer Jagath Karunaratne representing him instead. Karunaratne requested the court to reschedule the hearing to Thursday.

The Office of the Attorney-General was represented by Yovin Naidu, while Seini Fotofei appeared for the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC). The High Court consented to the request and instructed all parties to submit their documents by September 4.

Prakash was convicted last year of unlawfully acquiring $33,670 in parliamentary allowances after an eight-week trial. He faces charges from FICAC of providing false information to a public servant and obtaining a financial advantage. The next hearing is scheduled for next Thursday at 2:30 pm.
