Grace Road president Daniel Kim is set to gain his freedom following a recent ruling by the High Court in Lautoka. The court mandated that Kim’s legal team negotiate with the permanent secretary for Immigration next week to reach an amicable agreement regarding his release. This ruling also extends to another member of Grace Road, Dr. Sung Jin Lee.
Justice Anare Tuilevuka, in delivering his decision, noted that both Kim and Lee have consistently conveyed through their legal representatives their willingness to comply with any necessary terms for their release. The court has scheduled a mention in Suva for further updates on Monday, December 2, 2024, at 2 PM, to assess whether the parties have reached a resolution regarding the terms of their release. If a settlement cannot be achieved, the court will step in to determine the terms.
A production order has been issued requiring Kim and Lee to appear in court in Suva on the same date in December. Since October 5, 2023, Daniel Kim has been in detention.
In summary, the recent court ruling provides a pathway for Kim and Lee’s potential release as they seek to negotiate their terms with immigration authorities. This development not only brings hope to their supporters but also reflects the judicial system’s role in facilitating fair negotiations in such complex cases.
Overall, this situation exemplifies the power of legal advocacy and the possibility for resolution through dialogue, which is always a positive trend in legal matters.
