The High Court in Suva has granted a Domestic Violence Restraining Order (DVRO) against Sairusi Ceinaturaga, a 35-year-old man accused of causing the death of his one-year-old daughter last month. Ceinaturaga made his initial court appearance before Justice Siainiu Fa’alogo Bull, facing serious charges that include murder, assault, and causing grievous bodily harm.

According to allegations, Ceinaturaga physically assaulted his 27-year-old partner while she was preparing a meal, and he is also accused of striking his young daughter with an aluminum spoon and forcefully hitting her against a wall, subsequently throwing the child onto a mattress. Furthermore, there are reports of him assaulting his three-year-old son by banging his head against the wall. Police investigations revealed that Ceinaturaga has a documented history of abusive behavior.

The prosecution, led by Unal Lal, emphasized the necessity of the DVRO to ensure the safety of the de-facto partner and their three-year-old son. In response to these concerns, Justice Bull established the DVRO with standard non-molestation conditions. Ceinaturaga is currently held in custody, and the case is set to resume on December 12.

This case sheds light on the vital role that legal protections play for victims of domestic violence, reinforcing the importance of prioritizing the safety of vulnerable individuals and children in such situations. While the circumstances are tragic, the issuance of the DVRO signifies a critical step toward providing necessary protection for those affected, highlighting ongoing efforts to combat domestic violence in society.

In summary, the High Court has taken significant measures to protect the family involved, illustrating the judiciary’s commitment to addressing domestic violence while the accused faces serious charges in the coming months.
