Anare Vuli Cilicewa, a 31-year-old man, made his initial appearance in the High Court in Suva yesterday, facing a murder charge related to the death of a woman in Raiwaqa last month. He is accused of murdering Sabreen Shahib Ali on September 9.

During the court session, Cilicewa indicated that he has yet to secure legal representation but has submitted an application for assistance from the Legal Aid Commission. State Prosecutor Zenith Zunaid informed the court that they require an additional seven days to provide full disclosures, as further police investigations are ongoing.

The case has been postponed until October 16, at which time the court will review Cilicewa’s legal representation and the necessary disclosures. Additionally, Cilicewa’s production order has been extended. Zunaid mentioned he would be attending to another matter in a different court but would ensure that another prosecutor would represent him.
