High Court Grants Bail to Arson Suspect: What’s Next?

The High Court has granted bail to Emosi Tikoicina, who is accused of setting fire to the Navuso Agricultural Technical Institute located in Navuso, Nausori. The hearing took place this afternoon in front of High Court Judge Justice Thushara Rajasinghe.

Justice Rajasinghe imposed strict bail conditions on Tikoicina. He is prohibited from interfering with prosecution witnesses and is required not to commit any offenses while on bail. Additionally, Tikoicina is barred from entering the Technical Institute premises.

During the proceedings, State Counsel Zenith Zunaid informed the court that Tikoicina had confessed to a fellow student at the Institute. Tikoicina had previously pleaded not guilty to the charges in May.

He is facing one count of Arson under section 362 (a) of the Crimes Act 2009. The charges state that on April 7, 2024, in Nausori, Tikoicina allegedly willfully and unlawfully set fire to the building of Navuso Agricultural Technical Institute along with its equipment.

The case has been adjourned until September 30 for further mention.
