High Court Grants Bail to Alleged Arsonist Amid Strict Conditions

The High Court has granted bail to Emosi Tikoicina, who is accused of setting fire to the Navuso Agricultural Technical Institute in Nausori. The case was reviewed by High Court Judge Justice Thushara Rajasinghe this afternoon.

Justice Rajasinghe imposed strict bail conditions on Tikoicina. He is prohibited from interfering with prosecution witnesses and must refrain from any further offenses while out on bail. Additionally, he is not allowed to enter the Technical Institute premises.

State Counsel Zenith Zunaid informed the Court that Tikoicina confessed to his friend, who is a fellow student at the Institute. The accused had pleaded not guilty to the charges in May.

Tikoicina faces a charge of Arson, in violation of section 362 (a) of the Crimes Act 2009. It is alleged that on April 7, 2024, in Nausori, he willfully and unlawfully set fire to the building and its contents.

The case has been adjourned until September 30 for further mention.
