The High Court in Suva has rejected the bail application of Apisai Madigibuli, who is facing murder charges. The 27-year-old appeared before Justice Dane Tuiqereqere, where he was formally charged with the murder of his pregnant wife, an incident that took place on July 28, when he allegedly stabbed her multiple times with a kitchen knife in their apartment.
During the court proceedings, Justice Tuiqereqere expressed serious concerns for Madigibuli’s safety should he be released into the community. The judge emphasized the gravity of the charges and pointed out that the State had presented compelling evidence, including CCTV footage and eyewitness accounts implicating Madigibuli in the crime.
With the trial set to commence in the next two months, Justice Tuiqereqere determined that it was not an appropriate time to grant bail. The case has been scheduled for further mention on December 3.
This ruling highlights the judicial system’s commitment to ensuring public safety and the seriousness with which it treats domestic violence cases. It is a reminder of the importance of protecting victims and holding individuals accountable for their actions. The upcoming trial may provide clarity and justice for the affected family.
