The High Court is set to hear a motion to dismiss the case against former FijiFirst Member of Parliament, Vijendra Prakash, next Thursday. The case was presented before High Court Judge Justice Pita Bulamainaivalu this morning.
Originally scheduled for today, the hearing was postponed after Counsel in Charge Siddharth Nandan was absent. Instead, Suva lawyer Jagath Karunaratne appeared on his behalf and requested to move the hearing date to Thursday.
Representatives for the Office of the Attorney-General included Yovin Naidu, while Seini Fotofei represented the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption. The High Court granted the request, instructing all parties to submit their documents by September 4.
Prakash was found guilty last year of unlawfully receiving $33,670 in parliamentary allowances following an eight-week trial. He faces charges from FICAC for providing false information to a public servant and obtaining a financial advantage.
The hearing has been rescheduled for next Thursday at 2:30 pm.
