The High Court in Suva has postponed the sentencing of three former police officers who are facing manslaughter charges until October 17 due to unpreparedness. The officers, Maciu Vakatuturaga, Joshua Bull, and Isireli Raseisei, appeared before Justice Thushara Rajasinghe last Friday, seeking a ruling.
The charges relate to the alleged assault of Tikoivalenibula in February 2022, which occurred after he was taken to the Samabula Police Station on suspicion of assaulting a 27-year-old mechanic while under the influence of alcohol. The injuries sustained during the incident ultimately led to Tikoivalenibula’s death.
The three officers are currently out on bail.
